During the summer of 2011, Dr. Mona Becker of the Environmental Studies Department of McDaniel provided NEWCAP with the proposed scheducle for her students' project involving the study of Bio-Sludge usage and its impact of local farms. Shown below is the tentative schedule given to us by Dr. Becker.

 

  • August - November 2011
    • Check with farmer collaborators in Carroll and Frederick Counties, identify farms and make contacts. Both farms that utilize sludge and do notutilize sludge.
    • Literature review - Priamry Science Literature on Sludge
    • Access and review permitting applications from MD Department of te Environment
    • Download topographic maps of the area on gps unitsOver view of possible fieldsites - visit potential farms, talk to farmers Spring
  • Semester 2012
    • Overview of possible field sites - visit potential farmer, talk to farmers
    • Work with farmers wit their spraying cycles
    • Possible sample collecting - sludge samples, field/soil samples
    • Reasearch students from McDaniel
